May the Lord fill your life with the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

If God is not first in your life, then something else is (Deut 6:4-5, Matt 6:24, 33; 10:32-38, Mark 8:34, Luke 11:23, 1 John 5:21).

I'm A Good Person. I Know I'll Go To Heaven.

Without a doubt, the greatest misconception is that we can earn our way into heaven by our good works (the second being that all ways lead to heaven). In fact, just about every form of religion will espouse some form of self-effort. The problem is, how do you define good works? Good works are subjective and arbitrary. It is far too difficult to say whose works are better, especially since our pride tells us that we have great works - far better than anyone else (Proverbs 20:6)! But the truth is, even our best is like filth to the Lord (Isaiah 64:6, Habakkuk 1:13) because His standards are so high and pure. To God, hatred is like murder (1 John 3:15) and lust is like adultery (Matthew 5:28). So how can we possibly prove we are good enough to someone that can't even look at sin? We cannot.

That is why Jesus Christ was given to us (John 3:16, Colossians 2:12-14) and the only work required is to believe in Him (John 6:29). He is the only way to heaven (John 10:9, 14:6). We cannot be perfect by the law (Romans 3:20 & 27) nor can we earn salvation (Romans 4:4-5, Galatians 2:21). Do not be deceived. Just because you tell yourself you never killed anyone or try hard to be a moral person, you are still a sinner, and sin will keep you away from our Father unless we repent and faithfully believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Luke 13:3, Acts 3:19, Romans 10:10, Galatians 1:6-9, 2 John 1:9-11)!

Once you have confessed your sins you must change from your old ways (John 3:3). This is what makes repentance complete. Don't just stop at sorry. Judas only got that far! This is the third greatest misconception about going to heaven. We assume that because we are forgiven we don't need to do anything else. It's like we have a 'fee pass' or a 'get out of Hell card' so we can do as we please. Wrong! In fact, DEAD wrong because that is the only result of that choice - eternal death. The Lord is both merciful and just (Exodus 34:6-7, Psalm 37:28, John 3:36, Romans 6:11-18; 8:11-16, Colossians 3:3-11).

If you are uncertain about being right with God, it is never too late! Today is the day to ask Him to forgive your sins and fully surrender your life into His arms. You just have to ask! If you are uncertain about your walk with God, it is never too late to ask Him to help you get back on track (Luke 21:36). God does not want any of His children to perish but rather have everlasting life (Matthew 18:14), and so do I. But unless you learn to abide in Him, and make Him first in your life, it will be an ugly result (John 15:4-6, Revelation 3:3). Please don't wait until another time to choose where you will spend eternity, for we do not know what the future holds (James 4:14).
